On 8 March, UNI Global Union Equal Opportunitties marks International Women’s Day by highlighting the vital role of unions in advancing gender equality at work, with a new manual on Negotiating Collective Bargaining with a Gender Perspective.
In a global context where equality is facing setbacks, collective bargaining remains a key tool to transform the world of work.
Today we know that:
Negotiating with a gender perspective helps reduce pay gaps, prevent violence and harassment, recognize unpaid care work, strengthen union participation and build fairer

Gender equality strengthens unions, and stronger unions mean more power for workers.
The coronavirus pandemic is having a disproportionate impact on working women.
Most of the world’s precarious and informal jobs are held by women, a situation that exacerbates
their vulnerability in times of crisis.
Women represent more than half of the world's service workers. They work in industries and sectors without protection, such as paid family leave and paid sick leave, and in many cases, without appropriate health and safety measures.
But, by being part of a union, women are getting a better deal at work.
This 8th of March, on International Women’s Day, at UNI Global Union we are demanding essential rights for essential women workers.
WOMEN'S RIGHTS ARE ESSENTIAL RIGHTS.
Every day, thousands of women workers fight actively to improve the quality of life in our
societies, to make it fairer and more equal. Anonymous women, strangers, who do not seek more
recognition than they are entitled to. Brave, generous women.
Mothers, daughters, grandmothers, sisters.
Women who want a different world and who know that they can only rely upon themselves to get it.
Women who inspire others.
Women like you.
We want to hear your story.
You can send your story,
